When Director Onir walked into my home looking for his cast for I Am Abhimanyu…….I never thought the association would turn into something as meaningful as this. I am really happy to be a part of this project simply because I can feel Onir’s sincerity, and sensitivity. Onir struck me as a very genuine film maker – far different from the run of the mill ones we usually come across. It also helped that I had seen and enjoyed his first film “My Brother Nikhil” and the rapport between us was instant.
I was more than willing to contribute in my own way to this cause by helping Onir and his team find their “young” Abhimanyus. And kudos to Dhrishit, Zubin and Zain who proved to be worthy performers with lots going for them. I wish all of them the very best in their future projects. Not to forget young Sayali who essayed a small role – in the dream sequence of Abhimanyu – she was wonderful!
Someone recently asked me, “Nalini why did you do this project without charging anything? After all you are a well known Casting Director in your own right.” My reply to this sums up my sentiments towards Onir and his pet project.” How often does life give you the opportunity to go beyond the material, to go beyond the obvious, to do something WORTHWHILE, which makes you FEEL GOOD inside, without worrying about the returns?” As it turns out, not very simple. Also what makes this venture unique is the public / private participation. People from all over the world are contributing in their own capacities to this 4 film project – because they see something that touches a cord somewhere.
The Universe has its way of bringing together like minded people, sincere in what they do, honest to the core, and I think it is that which brought Onir and Sanjay Suri into my life. This association is for keeps.
All the very best Onir! Can’t wait to see the final product ![]()
